Setting up speakers for desktop

Hi Folks

I have just bought a new set of external speakers for my desk top.

I have connected them up correctly (I think), but instead of giving 'normal' sound, it is making a crackling noise.

Can you please advice how I can rectify this?

Is there something I need to do on the actual computer in order to correct the sound?

Thanks in advance.

What speakers are they?
Are they plugged into the right socket/s?
On mine its just the pink and green.
Are they powered?

If it has a green fitting it has to fit into the green coloured hole.
Sounds like you have it connected wrong and all you are getting is static noise.

Did you fix the problem?
