Setting up a new website

Hi

Does anyone know of any good companies that could set up a website for a new property business. We already have a domain. But require a site than allows search function, map links and allows upload of property pics.

I don't know much about the costs involved but have had some silly quotes for what would amount to one day's work for the companies.

Thanks

I only do sites on a hobby basis but I am aware of the kind of costs you are talking about -and they might not be as silly as you think. Ok depending on how big a site you want -and your requirements do suggest a certain amount of technical skill there - it might take one day - or more or less - but it isn't just the time you are paying for - it is that skill, which will have taken years to build up. Your site has to follow certain legal rules; it has to look professional and work on all different types of computer set ups.

"...what would amount to one day's work for the companies."

You're kidding right? A thorough job of even a small project involves more hours than that, and in addition to all the standard minimum requirements, you're looking for a search facility and some form of CMS or API to provide easy file upload.

you say "I don't know much about the costs involved"

and then go on to say "...have had some silly quotes for what would amount to one day's work for the companies."

If you have no idea about what's involved, how do you know the quotes are silly? I design websites commercially, and have not once completed a project in one day, however basic the site. If you've had several quotes, and all of them are reasonably similar, it's an indication that they're about right.

I agree with what's already been said.
This is a lot more than a days work for any respectable developer.
As the old saying goes, 'buy cheap, buy twice'.
You get what you pay for.
It never ceases to amaze me how many people assume web design/development is easy when they don't really know what's involved.
Would you ever say to your plumber that 'it should only take a day'?

and so on. It's a competitive market, so prices are pretty good. Having a site designed from scratch is always more expensive than using a service that already specialises.

Lots more - just google for

Thanks for the links DieSee, most useful compared to the £3,000 - £4,500 quotes I have had so far.
