setting up new pc with or without startup discs

  canard 22:29 26 Apr 03

Three yearsago I had to set up my new pc with a floppy startup disc and a CDrom.
Yesterday my grandchildren had their new pc delivered and, after connecting it up, just switched it on and they were off!
So was the startup disc and cdrom plus all that aggro waiting for whatsit ghost to perform unusual or was it the way pcs were started up then and things have now improved?

Things are different now, moved on. They also preinstall software, the only problem is that a lot do not provide a backup of the drive and software so if it goes bang, You have to buy all the software. Unless you buy Drive Image and create Your own backup of the drive when it is working OK
