I have been told I could set up an ftp server connected to a Netgear DG834G Wireless router (which runs a small home network)to enable me to access files when away from home. Have bought a Pluscom NAS STR8132, fitted an 80Gb hard disk. Connected up to router and ran setup but am unable to access internet.Could someone please give me correct router settings. My ISP is Tiscali. Many thanks

Many tnx. Have tried FolderShare but it requires machine to be on - Sometimes I am away for lengthy periods, so would rather have an FTP server hard wired into router. TCP ports 20 & 21 are open. I would like the Netgear DG834G router WAN and LAN settings to make this work.

Does this help? click here

Pluscom/Safecom seems to be the same company

Then reserve an IP address for it on the router and forward the relevant ports to that address.

Many Thanks Beta and brundle for your help. The ftp server is running ok. Brundle's link to Karim's pictorial setup was excellent. Best Regards to all
