AS you know Microsoft never released a SP for Windows 98 SE...

If you click here there is an UNOFFICIAL Service Pack being offered for Windows 98 SECOND EDITION.

Emphasis on: UNOFFICIAL

Also click here

With a thread: click here

Good and bad experiences as you would expect.

FYI!

However I'm sure this does the same click here but not a SP.

Just downloaded and installed - well someone had to. First two mirrors were busy so I cannot be the only one.

Anyway, after reading the info I tried the defrag which was supposed to be a bit quicker than the standard 98 version. I can now report that it isn't.......It's a LOT faster !!!
I try to defrag once a month and my C drive would normally take 1 to 2 hours (just did it in 10 minutes) and the other large disk would be an overnight job (took just 30 minutes).

No problems so far (fingers crossed, touch wood, etc.)
In case anyone is wondering, it does appear in the add/remove program list.

"Better Defrag and Scandisk. (Faster. They are from Windows ME. However, they work properly on the Windows98 SE.)"

I've been using the ME defrag on Win98se for a long time, yes it is a lot quicker.

Just put it on my machine this evening, I have noticed that I can't get rid of the little arrows on my shortcuts with TweakUI, no big deal, just strange.

  bloo meeny 17:34 23 Feb 04

Noticed the same thing - but a few days BEFORE I installed the service pack (still the same now) so I don't think it's that.

  Valvegrid 18:00 23 Feb 04

It is SP1, I've just uninstalled it and everything is back to normal.

Thanks for response, Valvegrid.
I could live with that anyway.....

However, I have now discovered that my machine will not wake up from standby mode. Will keep you posted...
