service pack 3

  DavyLad 06:25 05 Oct 08

For the second time I have tried to download service pack 3 through automatic updates. It gets so far then comes up with the message "Access is denied" I press OK then I get the message "Service Pack 3 installation did not complete" I have turned off my firewall and anti virus but without success. Any ideas anyone? I would be grateful for any help.

There are a few solutions towards the bottom of this thread including disabling your firewall.

Just download ISO image file of SP3 from click here and burn it to a CD.
Now delete any temp files you have. If you have installed ccleaner it will do the job for you.
1.Disconnect from internet and if possible disable your broadband connection.
2. Disable any anti virus and fire wall.
3. Slip in the cd you have just burnt into your cdrom drive and proceed with installation.
Good luck.

You can make a slipstream copy of XP/SP3 :

Thanks for all the advice folks, I've decided on the slipstream method.

particularly "Method 3" looks complicated but it is not that bad in reality..... just follow the instructions.
