Sending message via MSN?

Can osmeone please tell me how to send a message using MSN?? I've been trying to get to grips with it for 3 days now and i'm ready to punch my pc screen.
I'm all signed in, I can see my contacts but when I click on their name, no dialogue box comes up to type in. If I click on send instant message, a thin box comes up but then there is no option to 'send'...thought it was supposed to be so easy?! Thanks for any help.

Check you have the latest version of MSN Live Messenger.
Hovering over or right-clicking a contact's name should give you the relevant options for messaging etc.

Yes, I have the latest version, I do that and the dialogue box comes up but then there's no option to "send"...

After typing in your message just press Return and it goes

Oh, ok thanks. Just that when I actually DID manage to use it the one and only time the other day, there was a specific "send" button...?
