sending Fax via broadband ??

hello people, my mate has just purchased a lexmark x4250 printer/ scanner, it does not have external fax but with the instalation setup a fax was software icon was installed, he was woudering if he could scan and fax it, but i had my doubts seeing that he has broadband. i did want to try it thinking it may cause some malfunction of the systen or printer,
any idead on the subject please. can it be done

you can only fax if the fax machine/printer is plugged into the BT telephone line, not the ADSL line.

As above also. Via Dial-Up Modem. You do not need a Dial-Up server to send a Dial-Up Fax. Only the Modem Software

Just a thought but if the broadband is orange, with a live box, shouldn't the integral voip phone line work. If so UK geographic number faxes should be free together with the 100 free foreign destinations

I'd be sceptical about it working on voip as teh fax/modem software would be expecting to work with a modem and with the specific signal characteristics of a land line (e.g. dial tone etc.). Does voip replicate this?
