security on routers

Hi, I have a router which uses wep as security, I am aware that wpa is unsecure and when I try to change it to wpa and reconfigure the router I get a message saying that my ISP settings wont wont allow it!!! so I have had to go back to wep 64bit which is ok for now as I live in a remote area and I am relatively secure but when I move which I hope wont be long I will be in a built up area and would like to increase the security on the router, how can this be overcome?
thanks TRicia
