What is required to be installed on a new PC which is using Microsoft Vista? i.e. firewall, anti-spyware, etc?

I would be grateful for an answer asap as I am going to parents house today to help set up new PC.

Thanks.

Anti-virus, Anti-spyware and firewall are just as important on Vista as XP. There is no free firewalls that are currently compatible with Vista but I heard "Zone Alarms" are in the process of developing one. The only other firewalls I know that are compatible with Vista is the ones built into security packages e.g Norton, McAfee.

Spybot search and destroy,(Anti-spyware)

A-Squared Free,(Anti-spyware)

AVG Anti-virus Free Edition (Anti-virus)

These programs are all Vista compatible. You just have to wait on a third party free firewall unless you're willing to pay for one.

Can all these be put onto Vista:-

Ad-Aware
Avast
Regseeker
Spybot
Spywareblaster

(these are all what is on our window xp system and we are more than happy with them).

Also, is there a built in firewall in Vista?

Vista has a much better Firewall than the old XP. It now works 'both-ways', so I don't think any other Firewall is needed.

PS - I have also installed AVG Free, Skype and Incredimail on a friends new Vista pc.

I use Avast until Zone alarm bring out their Vista security suite. Make sure you have the latest Vista version, it works smoothly without problems.

Spybot and Adaware work fine here also.

this is the driver I sent in response to an email
from I,Me and Myself. I explained about Forum Rules re use of Yellow envelope.

It seems to have done the trick for her.

I didn't put the email on here in the usual way as I
am not well, and had just returned from the surgery.

Nite nite - back to bed for me :-(
