Security password

I have 3Com ADSL router, which works perfect with the internet. I can connect my laptop using a belkin wireless network adaptor to the router and surf the net, however I am struggling with its security. When I secure my desktop with a password (key) I cannot get the adaptor to connect. Any ideas?

"When I secure my desktop with a password (key)"

Not to sure what you mean by desktop password

Wireless password is installed in the router and the laptop will request a password when you connect to the wireless router correct SSID name

The desktop have nothing to do with password unless you are using a wireless adapter on the desktop

Are you talking about a WEP\WPA encryption key to secure your wireless network?
