I am running winxp on my master h/d and win 98 on the slave, I wish to format the slave and put win xp on it instead is this possible. Dave

You will only need Win XP on your master h/d. If you do not want to keep win 98 - just format your slave drive. You can then use this for (say) data storage etc.

This is a good way to set up your p/c - as if you need to re-load Win XP in the future (or it gets messed up) you can simply reformat your master drive without any problems with your data.

I agree with dth, why have XP on both disks? USe it for storage and maybe to store an image of your C: drive in case it goes wrong
