Searching in My Posts or Help Room?

I am trying to look at a question I raised some months ago regarding what appears to be automatic formatting in Excel. i.e. When I enter some figures the result automatically goes in to the required cell. At that stage the required cell has no formula in it, it is automatically worked out and entered.

My problem is I can see nowhere on the PC site where I can search the Help Room or My Posts to try and find that question. I have typed Excel in the search bar, but it seems to go to all forums and corrupts itself to bringing up anything that may have "Excel" in the word like "excellent".

How does search work now?

The search box for forums is on the left just above the word "Helproom"

I get more relevant results using google to search pca site

Google for: TonyV Excel site: pcadvisor.co.uk/forums

brings up one, but the others are there if you repeat search as below

In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 1 already displayed. and then click on the 'you can repeat the search with the omitted results included' to get them all, there are two pages of search results.

Just discovered in google search if I miss out the space after the colon :

TonyV Excel site:pcadvisor.co.uk/forums

I get 4 pages of results, so it's a case of try it out as you wish.

Thanks for that. I'll give it a whirl and see what comes up. Didn't think I would have to go through Google to find what I wanted!! I see the Search box, but I can't see where to go to search a specific Forum or My Posts. After a few pages of going through Excel in the search box, I was getting all manner of things that didn't, at first glance, bear any relationship to what I was looking for.

Did the check you suggest but nothing came up that I was looking for. Everything but!

I suppose the question now is how do I get cells to create a percentage figure in a cell that is adjacent to it but is using a fixed cell elsewhere in the spreadsheet. I know all about it can't be done, there must be a formula in the cell that populates when return is pressed following the insertion of a figure, but the cell does not have a formula in it. It seems to recognise that when a number is being used to create the % figure it knows it has to put the % in the adjacent cell after pressing return. I will look at the sheet that does that and see if there is some form of formatting that allows it to happen. If I miss a row and put the working figure lower down the column, it will not populate the % cell unless I put a formula in. There is obviously a formula in the cell after it has populated itself!. I really cannot see how that happens. I remember the last time I brought it up, even VoG™ couldn't help with the reason for it happening.

Strange as this may seem, if I copy the ultimate formula in to a couple of % cells, then carry on putting the numbers in the adjacent cell, after the two cells have been worked out conventionally, i.e. by working to a formula, when I put further numbers in to the column of adjacent cells, it will automatically put the % figure in the column of % cells. I have to make sure that the first two or three cells have the formula in first to ensure the automatic bit functions. I have no idea how this works. Strange!

I'll close this now.

If VoG™ couldn't explain it, I have no chance as I only know very basic Excel.

Thanks for your interest. As I have already said, I have no idea how it can happen. Incidentally it is in Excel 2007.
