Is it possible to select a number of files in explorer and then replace just psrt of a file name or even change all those selected files extensions

eg
i have a lot of files in a folder which contain the same text "pot" and want to change all occurences of 'pot' to 'kettle'

or

all the files selected are '.txt' and I want to change them all to '.csv

As far as I know, it doesn't support multiple file renaming, but you can do this from a DOS window with eg.

ren *.txt *.csv

Pot to kettle would require a Renaming utility (you may find one in the Downloads Section (click here), but from DOS you could rename as follows:

Ren Pot*.* Ket*.*
