Search Facility does not finish

  Hetti 12:43 17 Mar 08

When I try to run a search, it just keeps on going last one was running for two hours without a result, I had to close it.
I run win XP home

mine's doing the same, I wonder if it's a m/soft update at fault?

I was thinking I would do a sfc /scannow and see if that cures it.

According to Microsoft, this behavior can occur when you open the Edit File Type dialog box for the Drive or File Folder registered file types.

Open a command prompt and typing the following:

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

press enter, close command prompt.

Microsoft acknowledges that this is a problem in Knowledge Base article #321379 and offers the following fix:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Locate and then click the Default value under the following keys in the registry if this problem occurs with folders:
If this problem occurs with drives:
3. Click Modify on the Edit menu.
4. Type none in the Value data box, and then click OK.
5. Quit Registry Editor.

WOW Fruitbat/\0/\
I dont think Im competant enough to start with this. but in my quest to rectify it I came across a Microsoft download called Windows desktop search so I got it and at the moment I can use the search facility through tiis software. I would ike to be back to normal, but I will stick to this for now.
Thanks for taking the time to help

happy to report it's fixed - am able to search properly now without it either 'hanging' or throwing up an 'Explorer.exe' runtime error (did a reboot after the regsvr32 /i shell32.dll fix and then no further prob)

thank you Fruit Bat /\0/\
