SEARCH ENGINE WEB SITE REGISTER

I have just registered my web site with Google which in the first intance was a surprise. I thought if ones site was online then it would simply appear in all search engines.

Secondly, it is with some shock to read that it can take up to a month before my site will appear in Google...how slow is that?! Apparently this is the norm but for an industry that prides itself on ever faster speeds this seems crazy?

Also do I have to register with each individual search engine to be visible?

Cheers,
J

The search engines will find you. They quote a month because the Google bots crawl sites at intervals of about a month.

You can register with DMOZ - the open directory project. It is edited by people and once you are on it you turn up in all sorts of searches (because other directories use DMOZ data).
