This enquiry is for a friend who had just bought a new Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop.
When the screen saver kicks in he get the message: "The screen saver can't run because it requires a newer video card or one that's compatible with Direct3D". He has contacted Dell thinking maybe the video card was faulty and at their suggestion did a pre boot assessment test (PSA) and found no fault. They also suggested it could be a software conflict - any ideas as to what it could be?

Sorry, I should have added it is running Vista Home Premium with 2GB of RAM inside

sounds more like lack of drivers for the video card.

Try uninstalling the video drivers in devicemanager and reboot the machine Vista should find new hardware and reinstall the driver.
this may solve your problem
