Screen resolution/ Pc to HD TV issues

I am trying to connect my laptop to my 37" Panasonic LCD HD TV via VGA cable.

Initially I had some success in doing this however I continued to play around with different resolution combinations and now every time I connect the two together I just get blank screens on both monitors.

In the display settings window on vista it will no longer allow me to adjust the resolution of the 2nd monitor. It remains fixed at 800 by 600 on the first and only notch on the slider bar. When I first connected the laptop to the TV I could adjust this.

This is obviously very infuriating lol!Is there any way I can reset to default settings so that I can adjust the resolutions again?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

if you have a nvidia based gpu in the laptop you could try the nvidia control panel.i once set my laptop up to the tv via the ncp.not used the vista set up.go to the vista control panel and see if its in there.if you have a ati gpu they might have a option aswell but dont know as i have nvidia.
