Screen resolution

I have recently had to re-install Windows XP SP2 and all is now well with one annoying exception.
I have use for some years and it has always worked fine. Now, however, although it installs OK, on bootup, it changes the screen resolution from 1024x768 (which I use) back to the basic 640x480. I can then change it back to the 1024x768 OK and all is then well until I restart later and it does the same again.
Any suggestions, please, as to how I can overcome this annoyance?

Is there any setting in the program that changes the resolution?
