Hello Friends, how do you set up a scheduled Disk Defragmentation task to run in Win XP Pro?
Thanks .

I assume you are using XP.
Run--All programs - accessories - system tools - scheduler - add new .

In the box type %systemroot%/system32/dfrg.msc

then set your times.

Thanks Terry, but when I click along the path Start/Programs/Accessaries/System Tools/Scheduled Tasks, I get to the "Scheduled Task Wizard" window after double clicking "Add Scheduled Task" in the right-hand pane. After clicking "Next" button, I don't see "Disk Defragmenter" among the listed programs. It is therefore impossible for me to schedule "Disk Defragmenter" to run at selected times. I have been able to schedule "Disk Cleanup" to run at 3 pm on friday every week, but I have failed to do same for "Disk Defragmenter". Am I not doing something right? I'm using Win XP Pro.
Thanks.

I took that from the help microsoft help, there seems to be a problem.
Do the following.
1-- If you do not have an administrator(user) login password , create one
2-- proceed to scheduled tasks as before, select add task.
open the windows folder and look for system32
Open system32 and look for dfrg.msc and click OK
This takes you the schedule box where you can set your times /dates to run.
You will need to use the administrator (user) pasword to activate the schedule.
It should now work.
