  Mysticnas 20:21 07 Apr 03

someone mentioned sometime ago about putting in the XP CD and holding the shift key down until the cd stops spinning and then typing something in commmand prompt to start the scanning...

i've tried to search for it but can't seem to find it!

can anyone tell what is it?

any other tips, hints and short cuts would help a load...

make this a tips and hints page if you like!!!

Thanks all in advance!!!

Boot holding down F8 to get into Safe Mode, then click Start, Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt, and type in:-

sfc /scannow

and press Enter. Have your XP disc to hand in case it's needed for restoration of a file.

If there's plenty to restore you'll find out just how unfinished XP is. If you're using Home Edition, it will still demand your Windows XP Professional disc as they've included no provision for the different version.

Further into file restores, it can demand your Whisperer Professional CD, this being it's project name before XP was coined. Pity they couldn't have finished the job and tidied up before starting on the next version!
