Scanning Problem - Epson CX5200

Scanner worked okay - but have since had a 'tidy up' on my PC! I keep receiving the message "Unable to access the scanner because it is not ready ot another application is using it. Please make sure that the scanner is on and connected to your computer, or close all scanning applications". I'm convinced that I've deleted something that I shouldn't have done and that the printer/scanner is fine. I have reinstalled the printer/scanner from scratch to no avail. Can anyone advise me?
