Hiya I recently purchased a new PC (Packard Bell) I have had my scanner (Umax Astra 1220P) for about 4 yrs. I thought it had installed ok but every time I go to scan something it comes up with an error msg "error opening data source" I phoned PC world who told me my scanner is too old to try the providers (umax) website & download new drivers, every time I try & do that I get "page cannot be displayed" - can anyone help??

This software IS NOT downloadable.
Available on CD-ROM only.
This product is non-returnable and non-refundable

You could also try the driver I have on my computer which is for the Astra 1220P for Win XP.

You would need to email me and I will send it to you as an attachment.

It is a .zip file at 6kb.

I can't guarantee it will work though.

Of course, you may find it more cost effective to dump the one you have (not many modern scanners work off the parallel port anymore) for a later USB model.

The advice you have relayed from the website seems to be a contradiction in terms if the P in Astra 1220P represents parallel.

I have an Agfa 1212u scanner which does work under XP with the updated drivers, but Agfa didn't offer any support for the parallel version of this printer drivers wise.

However, you don't need to pay for the driver - it's listed on several download websites(!):
