On my wifes Packard Bell windows XP her Scanner Acer 3300U is coming up with "scanner not found".
I have exactly the same computer with windows XP and it works OK. I cannot find anything wrong.
Any ideas for me to try please?

Have you tried taking the usb cable out,and then restarting your pc.Put the usb cable back in and Windows should find it.

Also try this, While Scanner Connected Go to Device Manager look for yellow icon under USB uninstall it, then unplug the scanner, leave it out. Load the Scanner CD drivers then plug scanner in

Sorry for the late response to your quick replies.
I have now tried all suggestions without success.
Device manager always comes up with "a problem occured during hardware installation. Your new hardware might not work properly".
Any further suggestions?

I take it that you are connecting via usb port.
Have you tried anything else in the usb ports? are they turned on?
To check restart computer go into the bios F2 F10 OR DEL KEYS are the usual ones and then check that USB is enabled
