Scanner for 35mm slides

  oaklands 14:57 14 Apr 04

I am a regular reader and subscriber, and am interested in purchasing a
scanner that would allow me to scan 35mm Slides and negatives as well
as carry out OCR. Some time ago you reported that none of the scanners
available would scan slides and negatives to your satisfaction . Is
there such a machine available now in the £200--£300 bracket?
Hope you can help.

Canon 9900F or Epson Perfection 3200 Photo. If you want really good negative scanner go for a dedicated unit. Try Jessops or the like.

I've been using Epson Perfection 1240U (discontinued, probably) with slide and negative adapter. I use it at 1200 d.p.i., which gives good results when viewed on a TV screen or printed on 6" x 4" photo paper, but it can go up to 9600 if you want more detail.

I have just finished scanning over 1000 35mm slides using an Epsom Perfection 1670 with slide and negative adapter and I am pleased with the result. click here

If you want true quality I would go for a dedicated film and slide scanner. Having used various models of scanners with light lid attachments and dedicated film scanners I got far better results from the latter. Scanning Kodak film and slides which were alot darker than Agfa film etc where impossible with a light lid attatchment. With £200 to £300 as a budget you could easily purchase a film scanner and a flat bed scanner. Jessops have a Primefilm 2700 scanner which produces superb quality images priced at £149.90.
