scandisk prob

i tried to scan disk my win xp pc and it told me to reboot as windows was using some part of the drive and so couldnt continue to scan it.i rebooted and all i get is the white bar as windows loads and nothing happens then. any ideas?

Try booting to safe mode. (F8 key wilst the PC is booting) Se if scandisk will run in safe mode.

i tried that all that happens is a system speaker beep but no safe mode.

Not sure why your just getting a white bar when you reboot, but I was using a firewall for a while which ment that windows couldn't run scandisk unless I rebooted. Could be this thats stopping you from running scandisk in windows.

For XP use chkdsk not scandisk.
