Hello, whenever i click start/accessories/systemtools/scandisk my pc will come up with an error message and will freeze over. However when i turn my pc off at the wall and scandisk starts because windows was shut down incorectly scandisk works fine. Is there any way to rectify this problem, maybe overwrite the file with a new one, i dont know, i am all out of idear.

Reboot. Keep pressing F8 before the Windows screen appears. You should get a menu - select Safe Mode.

Click restart in shutdown/start menu (bottom left hand corner) as it restarts keep pressing F5 key till yo see "bypassing your start up files" appear on the black screen. When a white screen with safe mode finishes loading click Scandisc and all will hopefully be OK

To clarify with Windows ME I click F5 but F8 also works
