Scan problen with Advent A10 all-in-one

My pal has a new Advent A10 all-in-one connected by USB cable to his Vista basic PC. He can print docs and photos from his PC, and can make photo copies, but cannot scan anything to the computer. We have tried both the control panel method (using the printer controls) and the Computer method (using Windows Paint). Both trigger off some action in the printer, and the read-out says "scanning", but no scan happens. What can we do next, short of taking it back to Curries? Glen

Simple question this but has your mate actually installed the scanner drivers and have a look at the software that came on the driver disk as there maybe something there related to scanning.
