Saving Word and Excel files from webpage

I am creating a CD which runs as a frontpage webpage, giving the user ready made files to click and opn in Word and Excel which they then fill in and save.

The files run OK but unfortunately, when I try to save them I can only do so as Webpage (HTML) or textfiles. I want to be able to save them as doc or xls files.

Does anybody know how to do it?

Do the users PC have Word and Excel installed?

Yes Paul, they have Word and Excel (as I do). When I click on the link on the webpage, the file opens up, but in IE, it looks just like a word/Excel document of course and you can fill it in just as if it were an ordinary Word or Excel file, but when you come to save it I am only given the HTML or text options.

Thats because that's all IE can save as.

Another way is to provide the instruction

Right click the filename and select Save As...

This should then prompt thme to save as a Word or Excel file.
