Saving picture files from websites

Here's my problem.

I see a photo from a website that I'd like to save.

I right-click and tell the PC I want to save the file. It gives me all the options EXCEPT that option to save the file as a .jpg image.

The ONLY option I have is to save the image as a .bmp even though the website image is a .jpg file.

OK, I can use PSP to 'convert' the file but thsi seems to be such a hassle.

Why will my browser not let me save the file in its native format?

I am using WinXP Home, IE6, etc etc etc

It's probably because they are not in jpeg format.
Just download them as is then make a copy and save that as jpeg, no need for editing tools XP does it.

Are you implying that Windows XP can change a BMP to a JPG just by changing the extension.

I beg to differ. And to prove it i tried with a BMP and changed it to JPG as you said above. Opened it with Irfanview and it warned me the file was a BMP with an incorrect JPG extension.
