SATA/USB HDD conflict

Hi there,

I have just installed a new SATA HDD as the main drive in my pc and everyhting seems to work fine apart from if I reboot the system whilst my Maxtor USB drive is still connected I get an Nvidia Boot error on the Bios checks before Windows XP loads and "cannot find drive, check cables" message.

If i disconnect my USB drive before rebooting it all starts up fine. As I use my USB drive a lot it is a bit of a pain to have to remove it from the system everytime I boot up. I never had a problem doing this with my old IDE ATA 133 HDD.

Ihave checked Device Manager and the SATA Raid drivers and drive are all fine.

Any ideas people?

thanks Maccyroo

I would check the BIOS to make sure it is not set to boot from USB first, then SATA if USB is not found, and if so set it to boot from SATA first.
