SATA HDD reformat

i needed to reformat my SATA HDD but as i booted up the CD and followed a few instructions, the screen seems to be frozen at examining disk 0..... what should i do. i have backed up all my data so that is not a problem.

Have you tried re-partitioning it to clear and data blocks, then re-formatting

maxtor. ive looked on a couple forums do i have to use some kind of floppy with the drivers for it?
