sata hard drive cannot format or use

hi i'm running xp on a abit av8 motherboard socket 939 athlon 3000+ w/ 1gig of ram. i'm currently running windows off of a 120 gig ide HD because i corrupted some files using disk cleanup on my main HD (80gb SATA seagate barracuda). I could not get my computer to boot up with the seagate so i just installed windows on the ide. Now that windows is up, the sata is recognized as E drive in windows. although it is not recognized in my bios. I want to format the sata and install windows on it and run off of that one. any idea why its not recognized? i can't seem to get a dos prompt at all through my floppy. i know its working cuz i've tried different ones with the same result. not sure where to go from here. any help is appreciated

Have you installed the Sata Drivers from your M/board CD.

Try going to help & Support, type in DISK, goto bottom option (Disk management) and format the sata drive from there.
