SATA grief again

Have Gigabyte GA7VAXP Ultra mobo with 2x SATA Maxtor 120Gb drives. My system is a royal pain to boot from cold as the SATA's are slow to fire up requiring a short halt in boot-up(usually enter BIOS for few mins)so I leave my system on 24/7.As I am in the process of redecorating I had to switch off and on boot up earlier,I forgot to halt the boot so XP Home has now decided that the SATA's arent available(Error Code 7)despite them both now showing as there during boot.

I tried reinstalling the SATA drivers, but XP is adamant that the drives are broke (The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block.)

How can I get XP Home to resume recognising them?

Got it to work by switching off the power for a couple of minutes and then entering BIOS to reset all SATA device settings before boot-up.

Stroll on later this year when I hope to build a new system with SATA driver installation NOT required as this motherboard seems to struggle with the drives.
