SATA DVDRW problem

I have just put together a computer for my nephew, specs as follows.
Asus A8N SLi motherboard
AMD X2 3800 processor
Crucial 2 X 1gb DDR400
Samsung 160gb HD SATA
ATI X300 PCI-e graphics card
Sony DVD Rom IDE drive
Antec case
Antec 380w PSU
XP Home OEM.

I have not used a SATA DVDRW before and it shows up in the BIOS, but I cannot install XP home from it.
It installs from the DVDRom (which is on an IDE connection) with no problems, am I missing something or is it a problem with SATA DVDRW's and XP Home?.

Have you got the SATA bios set to raid?

  alan2273 17:06 16 Aug 07

No, their is no raid installed.

Is the device listed in the bios-boot menu-boot device priority.

Is it top of the list

  alan2273 13:10 17 Aug 07

No, the SATA hard drive is on SATA 1 and the DVDRW drive is on SATA 2

What I meant was, is the SATA dvdrw top of the boot priority list.

When I mentioned raid before, I was thinking of these settings click here are all yours disabled?

  alan2273 18:45 17 Aug 07

Yes the raid is disabled, and in the bios it gives you the choice to boot of four drives, I set it up to boot from DVD, but as the DVDROm is on an IDE channel it is seeing that first.
I posted on the Asus forum and it appears this board will not boot from XP Home CD but it will boot from a Visat CD.
Thanks for your time in trying to help me.

Regards Alan.
