sata dvd connxn problem

I have just installed a SATA DVD RW drive on an ASUS A8V mobo running win xp. The problem is that although the drive powers up it is not recognised by Windows

the only drivers I can find are SATA raid drivers for HDD's, these have been loaded but to no avail.

right click my computer - manage - storage - disk management.

Can you see the drive? highlight right click - initialise and format.

have been there already, this adds to the mystery as the new drive is not there,,,,,I will try a different mobo connxn.

no only the ata optical and hdd's

Are your SATA connections type 1 ( 150 ) or 2 ( 300 ) if SATA11

As I was saying ! The SATA drivers are not for the hard drives but for the controller , it doesn't matter what is connected . Have a look in the bios to make sure all SATA ports are enabled .
