Safely Remove Hardware

  LeadingMNMs 10:36 20 Nov 03

After installing an external ADSL modem, i now get an icon in the buttom right of the screen (with the clock and other icons) that starts a wizard that 'Safely Removes Hardware' (the new modem). I sure this icon should be here and the modem works fine but i don't know how to remove since i cannot exit it and closing it simply minimises it.

Any suggestions !

the only way to hide it,

if you have xp

right click the taskbar/properties/customize

and set it to always hide

thats what i have done with mine

Yes it should be there. You have XP Pro I guess and it is a feature meant for external drives to stop programmes accessing it when you need to remove them. (Storage Drives normally.) After a while of minimising it XP seems to realise that you don`t actually want it to keep prompting you and it just sits there in the tray.

Someone is bound to know how to get rid of it permanently though - watch this space.
