Running Windows and XP on Dual Boot

This might seem like a very basic question to you more experienced members but could you please advise someone not quite so knowledgeable; I have installed Windows 7 on my D Drive and have Windows XP running on C drive with a dual boot option. What I need to know is if I decide to get rid of XP and remain with 7 how do I get XP off my computer. I should mention that C drive is 120GB in size and D is 40GB. Most of my programmes are on Drive C and I hope that it is not necessary to format Drive C completely to get rid of XP. Any advice would be sincerely appreciated.

Surely someone has an answer to this problem? :-(
