The following message has appeared on my son`s computer on start up:
"error loading C:\windows\system32\nvcpl.dll a dynamic link (dll) initialisation routine failed"

Now he cant improve his screen resolution beyond 4 bit !!! ????

Are these two things connected and where do I start? Thanks in advance!

not knowing much but i think this is a graphics card/software fault i think the nv is for nvidia
try reinstalling the the graphics card soft ware
or fist go to my computer in desktop right click
go to properties select device manager then check the graphics card is working correctly you can reinstall the soft ware from here if needed

Thanks for the leads all. Sounds like I`m close. The download file for the latest driver suggested by Spikey Chris is a whopping 18 Mb probably because it covers just about every model they have.

Should I simply replace the original nvcpl.dll file with the one I`ve downloaded from the site suggested by Wes Tam and see if that cures it?

Is it

I would replace your faulty file first to see if that resolves your problem.

If that works you can then update your driver if you think you will benefit by it.

Thanks again

I`ll try that tonight and let you know. It won`t be until I am back online on Thursday though.

Thanks to you all. A combination seemed to work with a reinstallation of the original drivers sorting the main problem.
