Run SFC (system File Checker) in XP

  cyclingchef 09:29 03 Jun 03

I tried to run sfc (sfc /scannow) from a command prompt in my XP Home PC and the command is not recognised? I CAN run it on other XP Home PC's I have access to. Anyone any ideas why?

Try it from the start, run area and see if it works ok.

I had the same problem once before realising I hadn't left the space before the /. I'm sure you aren't as stupid as me but just in case??

Are you logged on as administrator on the PC?

sfc/ scannow.

That should have read - Try sfc /scannow from the Run box instead of the command prompt.

Thanks guys, it does run directly from the 'run' box (now why didn't I think of that?) In my defence everything I found on the internet said run it from the command prompt & I have an XP Home laptop here and SFC does run from the command prompt. Another PC mystery!
