Routers causing Games to only recognise one IP Add

Does anyone know how in games such as Call of Duty 2 and Counterstrike Source, if you have a home network using a router to supply broadband to 2 or 3 computers how you can play simultaneously on the game where at the moment the game only recognises one IP Address being the router's?

The router should still direct appropriate traffic to individual machines, or does the connection method prevent you using the same IP address?

I'll check with Virgin Media who is the ISP delivering the supply via the cable modem to the router, if that is what you mean by the connection method thanks.
