router modem

I have a netgear router/modem which I am finding really difficult to set up.
Do I really need a wired LAN connection to the "base pc" if it has a usb wireless dongle. The 2 laptops in the house have wireless capability.

Hi jtw

Personally, I've found that a bit of wire connecting the base pc is the only real way ahead. There are schemes where a dongle might work, but the router really wants to communicate directly to your ethernet card.

Once you have done that, you should find that the netgear router instructions are a piece of cake to follow. I've got one and could follow them - so they must be easy!

Good luck with it.

Funny that. Just could not get mine to work even after 40mins on the phone to netgear.
All the lights on router but no internet working. Just thought there might be an easier way.
Have a small pc nouse but it has all bamboozled me.

Hmmm... A router problem?

Have you had any previous problems with a 'non-wireless' router or modem?

Ask netgear for a replacement as the present one won't work and then follow the set up disc again.

Sent it back to Amazon.
In your opinion they are easy to set up then and I was just unlucky? Thought it was me.
