My BT router only has 2 ethernet sockets. Is there a way to expand the number of sockets in the same way you can with USB sockets, or am I jut looking at a new router, again?

You could add a switch, but you might as well replace the router with something more up to standard. You're probably missing out on more than just LAN ports.
