router advisable?

I connect to the internet with a speedtouch broadband modem and recently have not only had abruptly dropped connection but have found connecting at all requires several attempts. I've heard that a router might solve these problems, but as I'm only a single home user and a router is for networking, am I likely to gain much by fitting one?

No point in using a router as you would only be using the modem part of it! Changing the modem may resolve resolve the problem but it could also we work on the lines [tel] within your area.
