Right clicking causes crash in XP

Windows XP

Athalon 2.8Ghz
Radeon 9800
Audigy 2
Cant think of anything else you might need to know.

Recently I have been unable to right click on anything in Explorer or on the desktop. When I try to do it the cursor turns to egg timer and the active window or the operating system stops responding. I also cannot delete files using the delete key or fron the edit drop down menu.

I have AVG installed and have ran the virus scan, no results. I also have problems with getting the latest update file for that downloaded. I suspect a virus and a need to restore everything but i'd hate to do it if there is an obvious answer to my problem that I am missing.

Also if anyone knows of a virus with the symptoms i've noted above could you let me know the name of it so i could find a fix for it.

Any ideas anyone?

You can always do a Housecall online scan to double check click here

Or run sfc in case system file/s corrupt.
