retrieving Files

I've got a dead pc - a repair shop has had it for nearly 3 weeks and reckon it's the mobo but don't have time orstaff to do the job. I went and demanded it back the other day. I want to retrieve files from the HD before I send it to another shop.

1) I've downloaded Knoppix but find I cant copy files to my Icy Box as it's NTFS system.
2) I can't find half the files I thought were on there. Have I unwittenly lost them when I tried a windows repair - I seem to remember somewhen during the repair there was a warning about files being lost but the instructions I was following said not to worry about this

You can use Knoppix' built-in CD burner to write files to discs (if you have a burner installed). click here

Look in hd0:\documents & settings\<your account name> for your documents, the repair may have created a new account if you chose the same account name, to prevent conflicts
