What does Retail and OEM posted beside new DVD writers I am looking to purchase ?

I am so glad that you aren't asking about Microsoft Windows! I was feeling a massive attack of deja vu for minute there.

In hardware, OEM means no manual, software utilities, cables, or other accessories.

It generally has equal spec, but this is not universally the case. Sometimes, the warrantee terms are different as well.

oem usually means just the drive and no box or software.Retail is usually dearer but you get a manuel and burning software.
Personally I would go for retail

Note that OEM CD/DVD writers (specifically) sometimes include software anyway.
