Restoring use of Sndvol.exe v. difficult?

Hi
SoundBlaster driver update has disabled my Sound Control.

Does re enablement mean a very obscure registry fix ? Wondered if I am wasting my time trying to find one.

If anyone knows the fix ( or knows if it too difficult), would be obliged.

What does Device Manager show

Hi woodchip

No conflicts. Drivers work OK. Its just that there is a very cumbersome Creative facility to config sound level instead of the yellow speaker icon. Icon gone and clicking on sndvol.exe evokes no response.

Which version of Windows are you using?

Sndvol.exe is frequently (but not always) associated with a Trojan - see click here

Sndvol32.exe is the sound / volume control nowadays.

On two counts!

sndvol32.exe it is. Typing it from memory not a good idea.

OS 98SE

If it worked before why did you uppdate it. I would remove all the software from ADD/Remove then remove all sound from Device Manager and when you restart comp put the original disc in for sound, when it asks for it

I un installed and then re installed my SounBlaster drivers when I lost the midi voices and had to use 3 year old Windows midi.

Midi is fine now. But the selective install is made diff. They want you to use their Player etc etc. and try to install in a sneaky fashion after you make the selections.

However, I didn't do to badly. just the easy Windows vol control missing.
Expect I should have taken a snapshot of the registry ? ?

Have you looked in Control Panel\multimedia\ Show volume control box, check it?s got a tick

If you double-click soundvol32.exe, does it open? If so, create a shortcut to it on your desktop.

First thing i looked for. But it seems to have been redesigned.
No sign of 'show vol control' option.

That's just it. no response when d/clicking .exe file in Windows/System
