Restore install for XP asks for a password!!

  emark 07:54 26 Aug 05

I need to restore Windows XP so boot from OEM cd.
Restore options - 1.C:\Windows.
Type 1 then return and then asked for administrator password.
This is my home pc and when I installed windows originally did not set up any administrator passwords. Is there a default??

i believe i have read somewhere here that if you do it in safe mode it apparently will not ask for password?
hope this helps.

Can you boot into Windows?

If so, and you have backed up any important data, try reinstalling windows over the top of existing XP.
Don't boot from CD but run it from Windows.

tap F8 for safe mode

before you do that I suggest you use the search feature on the left side of this page and read up on other threads for: safe mode

Just press Enter key.

""Just press Enter key.""

Is that for the default administrator password?

Do you just press 'Enter' when it asks for password? (as there isn't a password)

I remember I did something like this. I pressed enter, just like VoG™ said and it seemed to work fine :)
