Resizing JPEGs - please help!

I have been given many CDs worth of high resolution pictures used for our catalogues at work and told to resize them to 640 by 480 from 4256x2848. This will obviously be a fraction of the file size too which is the point of the excercise. does any one know of a way to resize the pictures en-mass as opposed to inserting each image into a blank 640x480 document and re-saving it? as there are probably 1000s of pictures I am keen to avoid this! thank you in advance to anyone who offers a solution to this problem
